Our 2nd-6th graders, Mr. Streyle, Mrs. Schierholt, Mrs. Ownbey, and Mr. Conarro, our visiting arts educator, dedicated many hours to the student performance featuring stories, songs, and movement from and about the place we live. Many community members, as well, shared in providing their stories through interviews for our students to use to shape the performance. What a vision Mr. Conarro had for his residency time here at Kenny Lake School. This performance will not soon be forgotten!
Also during his time here, Ryan Conarro was able to offer an arts integration workshop for our staff including a mini-lesson for integrating drama skills with writing instruction. Our community, after the Friday performance, was invited to attend an hour workshop with Ryan and new media-teaching artist, Katie Basile, where the focus was "Object Stories." About ten community members joined our artists for their workshop and provided great positive feedback.
Thanks, Ryan and Katie, for your dedication to the arts and supporting our students of the Copper River School District.
