Kenny Lake Senior Emmie Van Wyhe represented the Copper River School District at Alaska's 2013 Distinguished Young Women competition in Ketchikan last weekend. Not only was Emmie named 2nd Runner-Up in the statewide competition, but she won the "Service Above Self" essay competition, judged by the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, as well as the "Spirit Award," voted on by the student participants to recognize the contestant they believed best embodied the DYW's tenets of Scholarship, Leadership, and Talent. Van Wyhe received $1,500 in scholarships at the DYW event which she plans to apply to her education at UAF next year. Emmie intends to major in Fisheries Management and secondary education. Please join us in congratulating Emmie for this and her many other outstanding achievements!
