Creative Writing Contest is Open to Students
Alaska’s Statewide Creative Writing Contest is open for entries from students in all grades and the general public. Categories include story (for young children), fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Prizes are mostly $25 or $50, but the editors’ choice prize is $100, and the grand prize is $200. Entries are due February 10. The contest is sponsored by the University of Alaska Anchorage, the Anchorage Daily News, and the Alaska Center for the Book. For more information, visit ADN's contest website.
Hearty congratulations to Kenny Lake School junior HAZEL UNDERWOOD, who is the East Region Champion for the statewide Poetry Out Loud competition! In mid-January, 10 students from Kenny Lake School competed in a school-wide contest, and 26 students competed in Glennallen School's contest. As one of the top school-level winners, Hazel was able to compete in the regional contest...and she won! Way to go, Hazel, and congrats to the other students who competed in this year's Poetry Out Loud contest, as well. Click here to learn more information about the Poetry Out Loud program.
Welcome to our first "Mystery Person" contest! The Mystery Person could be a historical figure, a contemporary leader, a CRSD employee, or...? You must be a fan of the CRSD's Facebook page to be eligible to win, so be sure to "Like" us on Facebook (the CRSD page, not just a post!). Submit your answer via the CONTEST ENTRY FORM on the Copper River Current webpage. In two weeks, we will draw from among entries with the correct answer. The winner will receive an iTunes gift card! (For more "Mystery Person" fun, head on over to Kenny Lake School's Writers Workshop website.)
