Welcome to the Copper River School District

Overview

Located in the heart of rural Alaska, the Copper River School District is a small, close-knit community of schools serving students across a vast and beautiful region. We are home to three in-person schools: Glennallen, Kenny Lake, and Slana, along with a K-12 homeschool program, Upstream Learning. Each school is rooted in strong communities and a shared commitment to helping students succeed.

At CRSD, learning goes beyond the classroom. With small class sizes, one-to-one technology, and a focus on personalized learning paths, we make sure every student receives the support they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Our schools are deeply connected to the land and cultures of the Copper River Valley. We proudly honor and celebrate the traditions that shape our region, including the Ahtna language, storytelling, and strong community involvement. Families play an active role in school life through volunteering, supporting student activities, and enriching the educational journey in meaningful ways.

The CRSD will deliver relevant, rigorous, standards-informed curriculum to ensure student engagement in learning that results in high levels of achievement and preparation for life. Effective educators are the key to student engagement and learning. The CRSD will hire and retain innovative, enthusiastic, 21st Century educators with exceptional skills, growth-mindsets, and student-centered approaches to education. Excellent educators employ effective and responsive pedagogy and inspirational instruction of content and skills to meet individual student needs and ensure engagement in school.

The CRSD will provide students with options, guidance, and support to meet their learning needs and empower them to achieve success.
