The Copper River School Board is pleased to announce that they have selected three individuals as finalists in the search for a new superintendent.
The Board conducted a nationwide search and contracted with the Association of Alaska School Boards to facilitate the process.
The finalists are:
- Thérèse Ashton is currently the Superintendent/Principal of Tanana School District a role she has held since 2013. Before that, she was the Elementary Principal in Wrangell, AK for ten years, a role she took after being a teacher in the district for six years. Ms. Ashton-Viator received her BA in English from Western Washington, her elementary teaching degree and educational technology endorsement from the University of AK Southeast and her Masters in Education as well as her Superintendent Endorsement from the University of AK Anchorage.
- Rayna Neumiller-Hartz is currently the interim principal in Eek, AK which is located in Lower Kuskokwim SD but was formerly the Superintendent of Yupiit School District as well as ANE and MEL Grant Manager in Yupiit before stepping into the Superintendent position. She has also been a principal on the Ft. Peck Sioux Reservation in Poplar, MT, at Homer High School in Homer, AK, and for Alaska Gateway, Tok, AK. She has a BA in English from the University of AK Anchorage, an MAT and M.Ed also from the University of AK Anchorage. She has a degree in Tribal Schools Education Leadership from MSU Bozeman.
- Shaun Streyle is currently the Interim Superintendent for Copper River School District. He became the Assistant Superintendent for CRSD in 2017 and before that was principal in both Glennallen and Kenny Lake Schools. He also spent eight years in Bering Strait School District as a teacher. Shaun holds a BS from Northern State University in SD. He received his M.Ed in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Southeast as well as his Superintendent Endorsement.
The finalists have been invited to Glennallen for an on-site interview to be held on Monday –Wednesday, Feb. 18-20, 2019. Candidates will tour the communities, visit the schools in all three communities, and attend a community “candidate forum” on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the High School auditorium. The Board intends to announce their choice of a new superintendent as soon as possible following the final interviews and deliberations on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 20, or if needed on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 21. The new superintendent is expected to start on or before July 1, 2019.
