SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT

The Copper River School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that after a second round of advertising, vetting, and interviewing, we have selected two finalists for the final round in our process to choose a new Superintendent for our District. We will be bringing both candidates into our community on Monday, March 20, to tour the district, meet teachers and staff, meet our administrators, and participate in an open forum with our community. 

The tentative schedule for this tour is as follows:

Monday, March 20

8:00-11:30   Kenny Lake tour 12:15-1:30   Lunch in Copper Center   2:00-3:00    Meet with administrators

3:10-3:30    Meet with staff from Glennallen (Zoom KL and Slana)  

4:45-6:00    Dinner with Board Members Board Room   6:15-7:45    Public Forum in Glennallen Auditorium  

Tuesday, March 21

9:00-11:00  Second interview with Board, Board Room


OUR CANDIDATES

Our two candidates are Ms. Carla Marquand and Ms. Theresa Laville.

Ms. Marquand originally hails from Connecticut and has over 20 years of educational and administrative experience. She was most recently a 7th-grade Social Studies teacher in Connecticut and was an Executive Director, Assistant Principal, and Principal in the Fairbanks School District. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Principal in two school districts and also served as a Middle School Teacher and Director of Technology and Curriculum in two School Districts in Connecticut.

Ms. Laville originally hails from Dominica, an island in the Caribbean. She has served in education for over 25 years, most recently as the Assistant Superintendent of CRSD, School Principal, Assistant Principal, and Director of School Culture and Climate in the Dillingham City School District. Prior to that, she spent 10 years in the Bering Strait School District as an Itinerant Teacher and Trainer and English Language Arts Facilitator.

We are very excited to introduce these two candidates to our staff and community and the School Board hopes you will all take advantage of this opportunity to meet and weigh in on these candidates prior to the Board’s final decision on hiring.
