8th - 11th Graders: The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP) is accepting applications for its Summer 2023 Acceleration Academy. Students will live on the UAA campus and take one or two college courses in math or science. Participants also engage in fun STEP career exploration projects. The program is runs from May 27th, 2023 - June 30th, 2023 at the main UAA campus. Tuition, books, room and board, housing, airfare, and ANSEP activities are at NO COST to families. Seniors: The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers will be offering scholarships to eligible students for the 2023-2024 school year. In addition to the application, each student must also submit an official transcript. The transcript must be sealed, officially certified by the school, and include Fall 2022 final grades. Applications will only be accepted via mail or email. All applications must be received on or before Sunday, April 30th, 2023. Late applications will not be considered. To be considered eligible for the scholarship, you must be a graduating Alaska high school senior who will be enrolled at an accredited university as a full-time college student for the Fall 2023 semester in a curriculum leading to an undergraduate degree in engineering, including petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, or civil, or an earth sciences field, and intend to seek future employment in the petroleum industry. Migrant Ed Seniors: "Each year the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME) awards one or more scholarships to graduating migratory high school seniors to enable them to enter college. The scholarship, named after a staunch advocate for migratory students, is intended to assist migratory agricultural or fishing students who are dedicated students with a significant financial need who have moved with their family or on their own for agricultural or fishing employment." Alaska Works Partnership Inc. would like to raise awareness of the role Career and Technical Education (CTE) plays in preparing students for successful careers. From March 13 to 17, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Alaska Works Partnership Inc. will be offering two trainings in Anchorage: Carpentry and a "Deep Dive" into Sea-Going Jobs. They also have a Carpentry class in the Mat-Su Valley. "These are incredible opportunities for students to get a hands-on taste of the trades, learn valuable skills, and determine if a career in the construction or maritime fields is right for them. And the best part? It's all FREE!" This training is open to all students enrolled in a high school program (public, private or homeschool). Seniors: The Warren N. Cuddy Memorial Scholarship began in 1955 to assist students in pursuit of a college education. It is sustained by the Alaska Rural Rehabilitation Corporation (known as ARRC). There is one $2,500 award for students interested in an agricultural field of study and one $1,500 scholarship for students interested in non-agricultural fields of study. Kenny lake school: bus route 7 (rich highway and old edgerton) will not be running tomorrow (2/13)

Don't forget Kenny Lake School is hosting another Community Fun Night tonight. Open gym for toddlers and up will be from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Adult Supervision is required! Eighth grade students and up will have the use of the gym from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. We will have ping pong tables available as well as other sport equipment. The ice rink is available to use but the hockey sheds will be locked.

Seniors: A total of two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded: one to a graduating student from the Copper Basin, and one to a graduating student from the Cordova area. Home school students in the region and students who have significant ties to the region are also eligible to apply. CRWP scholarships are a one-time award, and money will be sent directly to the educational institution that you will be attending. In the case of several highly qualified applicants, the amount may be divided and awarded to more than one student. Applications are due by April 7th, 2023. The 2023 GCI Scholarship is a $40,000 investment in Alaska’s next generation of leaders. This year, GCI will provide two $20,000 scholarships. CRSD Superintendent Search Update This past October, the CRSD Board of Education contracted with McPherson and Jacobson, LLC to recruit for a new Superintendent . Since then, a total of 16 applicants were reviewed. Of these 16, five were chosen for interviews and three of these advanced to the final stage of consideration. Unfortunately, all three finalists withdrew their applications over the last week and a half. Two accepted positions with other school districts and one withdrew for family reasons. Beginning today, McPherson and Jacobson, LLC has begun a second round of advertisements to continue recruiting a new Superintendent for our District. Although we are disappointed with the outcome of the first recruitment round, we remain confident in finding a Superintendent that will be a good fit for the CRSD. The Board will keep posting updates on the search process as we continue to move forward. The community involvement in the search process has been wonderful to witness and has been especially helpful during the first recruitment cycle. The Board used community input to help craft interview questions. Several of the applicants reviewed the community comments on what makes our District great and where we need to improve. Your continued involvement will again be helpful during this second round of recruitment. During the search process the District is in the confident hands of our administrative team, led by Interim Superintendent Carlson. Our students are actively learning and we thank our teachers and support staff for the excellent work they continue to do guiding our kids to become lifelong learners. Although significant challenges continue to arise, District operations continue to move forward and the long-term outlook for the CRSD is positive.
