7th & 8th Graders in Art this Base Camp completed a review of the Elements of Art with this “Color Collision” project. Students all worked extremely hard and produced some nice quality work.

7th & 8th Grade "Exploratory" students in Art wrapped up with a unit on drawing human faces. Students began with drawing reference lines on a plastic egg so they could get a feel for proportion and see how the spacing between features looks different when viewed from different angles. The students then began to sketch a roughly egg-shaped outline in our sketch pads and added the same proportional reference lines that they drew on the egg. From there, students added appropriately spaced and sized facial features, using their reference lines as guides. As the week progressed, students spent some time each day focusing on individual facial features. A fun time was had by all..

Students in Mrs. Browns Biology class explored the difference in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells with a fun food lab. Students made bread with yeast, a ginger bug (which will make ginger ale), and sauerkraut. Both the ginger bug and the sauerkraut are fermented foods which preserves food and increases the longevity of the food. Students will monitor the activity of the fermented foods for signs of life. Students also looked at fermented liquids under microscopes to see the yeast cells in action and smelled what good ferments and bad ferments smell like as well as examine the effect of good and bad bacteria.
